About Sharon Murphy

“We seek our identity in the wake of painful experiences … We could have been ourselves without our delights but not without the misfortunes that drive our search for meaning… It is not the suffering that is precious, it’s the concentric pearlescence in which we contain it… Anguish will never be in short supply: there’s enough of it in the happiest life to serve these instructive purposes, and there always will be.”

-        Andrew Solomon, “Far from the tree”

Sharon has completed trainings in child, adolescent and adult psychoanalytic psychotherapy, mentalization based therapy, systemic therapy, EMDR, Circle of Security Parent Education, Marte Meo, and Wheel of Supervision, as well as holding Graduate Diplomas in Counselling and Relationship Counselling. Sharon’s work is also informed by her experience in primary and high schools as a school counsellor and having worked as a Family Dispute Resolution Practitioner.

Sharon has wide-ranging experience working with children, adolescents, couples, families and adults. Sharon has worked with many different client presentations, including clients wishing to heal from childhood trauma or adversity and to clients wishing to respond in new ways to current challenges.

Sharon provides supervision to other clinicians and particularly enjoys peer supervision and working as a part of a loosely-connected and mutually-supportive team with other therapists involved in the treatment of members of the client’s family - where consent to liaise is granted.

Sharon also is available for integration of psilocybin-assisted therapy experiences; integration of MDMA-assisted therapy journeys; and integration sessions for those undergoing ketamine treatments, including ketamine with integration psychotherapy (KWIP).

Sharon is a Clinical Member of the Psychotherapists and Counsellors Federation of Australia (PACFA), an Associate Member of NSW Institute of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (NSWIPP) and a Member of Institute of Child and Adolescent Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (ICAPP).
